Did you make the fondant yourself?

Tia March 15, 2010 at 10:23 AM

Thanks Tia! You're so kind!
No, I did not make the fondant myself this time; it's chocolate fondant and tastes way better than the normal sugar stuffs.

Omg, that is truly awesome--what a fun project that must have been. Hard to believe that cake was for a 6-yr. old.

How long did it take you from start to finish? The red velvet cake was a nice touch. I see Food Network cake competitions in your future :>).

Congrats on making FB top 9!!!

I guess I'm an old fuddy-duddy but what is a six old doing with an I-Pod??

Thanks Everyone for your so, so kind comments!

The cake was for a friend's 6-year old son who just got an iPod Touch from his parents as a birthday gift. The boy's already a computer wiz! I was still playing with Play-doh at that age! And I still do - I guess making this cake with detailed fondant icons is similar to handling Play-dohs?
I worked on the icons couple hours here and there the day before; the cake took about an hour to make and bake, the assembly took another couple hours, so I figured a good 6-7 hours in total? Had so much fun that I wasn't really keeping track.

Again, thanks for visiting and leaving a feedback. I truly appreciate it!

awesome job! my son wants one for his 14th b'day next month. u would not believe what bakeries want for this design. I was thinking about buying a 1/4 sheet, but after the shaping is done I would probably end up w/ a smaller cake. so maybe the 1/2 sheet. my question is what size cake did you begin with? again, good job.

Hello, you did an awesome job, may I ask what the dimentions of the cake are?
